Good morning and happy Wednesday! Yesterday, my husband received a package from our son & his family for his birthday. It was a cooler that contained everything to make
Portillo's famous Chicago dogs. And by everything, I mean everything! There was everything from the authentic beef sausage to the "radioactive" green relish, pickle spears, hot peppers, onion, tomato, special mustard and Rosen's fresh poppy seed rolls. There was even a shaker of their famous celery salt and a server's hat, which he wore all evening.
When Steve was a kid,
Portillo's was based out of a small trailer stand not far from where he grew up. By the time he was in high school, they had moved into a building. Steve and his friends would go there after basketball games to enjoy their 29¢ hot dogs. Today
Portillo's is all over the Midwest with about 60 restaurants. Every time we're in the Chicago area, we have to make a stop for a Chicago dog.
So here's where the pictures I took of him yesterday are going. In fact this is one of the new kits of mine that will be released later this week.
Steve already has plans for the other 9 hot dogs. It's a good thing that I don't like pickles & hot peppers. There's more for him. Ketchup, you ask? In the words of
Dirty Harry, "No one, and I mean no one, puts ketchup on a hot dog."
Have a wonderful and blessed hot diggity dog day!
